E-rate Technology Planning

Technology planning is federally mandated for schools and libraries seeking technology funding from federal programs, including E-Rate. As a result, technology plans must meet federally established criteria and be approved by your state to enable you to receive any E-rate savings.

  • Do you have a state approved technology plan?

If you answered "No", TECedge can help you prepare a technology plan consistent with all federal and state requirements. But you must act quickly because you must have your technology plan finished (but not necessarily approved) before you go out to bid for E-rate services (except for basic telephone service).

TECedge can help you develop a technology plan that meets E-rate and state requirements.  At minimum, technology plans for E-rate must:

  • establish clear goals and a realistic strategy for using telecommunications and information technology to improve education or library services
  • have a professional development strategy to ensure that staff know how to use these new technologies to improve education or library services
  • include an assessment of the telecommunication services, Internet services, hardware, software, and other services needed to improve education or library services
  • provide a sufficient budget to acquire and support the non-E-rate funded elements of the plan
  • include an evaluation process that enables the school or library to monitor progress toward the specified goals
  • meets any additional state requirements or formats
